Kiruna Wagon has delivered the first of 40 Bottom Dumpers to Norwegian mining company Rana Gruber AS.
The wagon was presented at a delivery ceremony in Mo i Rana, which was attended, among others, by Lisbeth Berg-Hansen who is a Nordland representative to the Norwegian Parliament. To mark the occasion, the wagon was decorated with a symbolic text which conveyed that Rana Gruber, through the purchase of Kiruna Wagon’s Bottum Dumper, is ready for the upgrade of the Dunderland Line to 30-tonnes axle load, a case which is currently pending before the Norwegian National Rail Administration.
“We are very happy and proud to have been chosen by Rana Gruber and to be able to contribute to a more efficient and environmentally friendly ore transport in the Nordic countries,” said Kiruna Wagon’s Managing Director, Fredrik Kangas.
The wagon manufactured for Rana Gruber is a Bottom Dumper that empties its load through a large bottom door. The low tare weight and the high axle load is the key to a more energy saving and environmentally friendly transportation.

Fast loading and unloading are key features of the Bottom Dumper. The bottom of the wagon consists of two large hatches that open entirely during discharge. Emphasis has been placed on the angle of repose, to optimise the centre of gravity and achieve a complete emptying.
