Kiruna Wagon has been chosen to produce 40 ore wagons for Norwegian mining company Rana Gruber AS. The contract was signed on May 23, at the Meyergården in Mo i Rana, Norway.

“That we have reached beyond the borders of Sweden is a milestone for us, and we are very proud to continue working with leading mining companies that have the highest standards of modern ore logistics,” saids Fredrik Kangas, Managing Director at Kiruna Wagon.

The wagons will be of the Bottom Dumper type and will transport raw goods from Rana Gruber’s underground mine and open pit in Ørtfjell to the processing plant and shipping in Mo i Rana. The first delivery is scheduled for autumn 2013. The new generation Bottom Dumper developed by Kiruna Wagon has a significantly lower tare weight than similar wagons. The result is an energy saving and more environmentally friendly transport.

“The ore wagons from Kiruna Wagon are designed for 30-tonne axle load and will facilitate an increase in our production capacity and ensure that we transport our ore in the most economic and environmentally friendly way possible,” said Frank Priesemann, CCO at Rana Gruber AS.

The deal is the largest single export order ever signed by a private company in Kiruna. Thanks to the company’s advanced experience in creating logistic solutions for Malmbanan, Kiruna Wagon has emerged as the European leader in heavy iron ore rail transports and is now helping Rana Gruber to take the step towards the heaviest transport class, with 30-tonne axle load.

“Our new Bottom Dumper is a very strong feature of our product portfolio for modular standard products. It has a very large sales potential in the Nordic region, but also globally,” said Bengt Bolsöy, Technical Manager at Kiruna Wagon.
