Kiruna Wagon is in an expansive phase and is now taking an important step in the company’s continued development by establishing a purchasing and quality department. Previously consisting of a single role, the department now comprises three people with a clear focus on structure, long-term planning, and more efficient logistics.
Henrik Almqvist has been recruited as head of the new department and holds overall responsibility. Together with Carl Ordéus and newly recruited Magnus Gustafsson, he will lay the foundation for stable and robust purchasing processes that strengthen the entire organization.
Henrik Almqvist was born and raised in Kiruna and has an extensive background within LKAB’s railway operations, where he has worked for more than 20 years in various roles related to maintenance, production, and logistics. Most recently, he held the position of Infrastructure Technician at LKAB Logistics, with responsibility for, among other things, LKAB’s railway infrastructure.
“It feels highly motivating to be involved in building something new from the ground up. Kiruna Wagon has impressive momentum and a clear future focus. I have been given great trust and a clear mandate to develop what I see as most important – stable processes, redundancy, and long-term business relationships.”

The new purchasing department will work both strategically and close to operations, with the aim of streamlining logistics, creating stability in the supplier chain, and ensuring that purchasing does not become person-dependent but functions as an integrated service for the entire organization.
“We are looking for stable and long-term business relationships. For us, purchasing is not just about placing orders, but about building partnerships that last over time.”

With Carl Ordéus and Magnus Gustafsson on the team, additional expertise in logistics, analysis, and development is added. Together, the department will support Kiruna Wagon’s continued growth, particularly ahead of upcoming large wagon series and the ramp-up of production during the spring.
This initiative is a clear sign of Kiruna Wagon’s ambition to continue developing as a long-term and stable player in the railway industry.
