Summer greetings

2024-06-19T07:39:28+00:00

Kiruna Wagon celebrates 20 years during 2024. It has been two decades of an uncompromising promise to our customers: to provide wagons of higher quality and sustainability, and with better transport efficiency than our competitors can offer.  Our journey could have ended many years ago. For example, if we had compromised on quality and only competed on low CAPEX. Or if we had delivered substandard maintenance, and at the same time moved our base and engineering expertise to another location with more convenient recruitment opportunities. We didn't. In fact, we never even considered the idea. "Dig where you stand" is [...]

Kiruna Wagon in new collaboration with Egyptian Tahawy Rail

2022-06-28T17:07:33+00:00

Kiruna Wagon has signed agreement with Egyptian Tahawy Rail for development and licensed manufacturing of self-discharging Side Dumper wagons. Kiruna Wagon’s licensed partner in North Africa and Middle East, Tahawy Rail, has won the procurement from Egyptian National Railway (ENR) to deliver 300 self-discharging Side Dumper wagons. Whilst the side tipping technology in its basic principles is proven for Boliden for more than 10 years, the new self-discharge function is based on innovative solutions. In this pre-development project one has managed to create a design that has both a lower tare weight and a lower centre of gravity than its [...]

Maintenance as the link to efficient railway logistics

2022-01-07T09:00:40+00:00

In the world of railway logistics, requirements are high regarding safety and quality. The price tag for transportation companies who want to meet the demands could therefore be expensive. But through preventive maintenance it is possible to decrease disruptions, while at the same time optimising the quality of rail wagons and reducing wear costs to a minimum. Those companies who succeed often work according to similar concepts. They have ongoing collaborations with partners and suppliers, as well as a plan for regular preventive maintenance. Another key to success is the meticulous documentation of measures taken to keep their wagon fleet [...]

Serial production for Egyptian National Railways to commence

2022-01-07T15:45:17+00:00

After completion of prototype development and testing, Kiruna Wagon is now ready to commence serial production of bottom doors for 76 grain wagons for Egyptian National Railways (ENR). The unloading design consists of a bottom-dumping solution with two doors on each side of the grain wagon. The two door pairs are opened individually, which makes it possible to empty the goods on either side at a time. In this case, the customer has chosen a manual unloading solution, with a hand crank on the gearbox, but a solution for remote control can also be provided. For the opening function a [...]

Side Loader XL – new video

2022-01-07T14:54:30+00:00

Side Loader XL is an innovative freight wagon with fully opening sides for unrestricted and super-efficient loading and unloading by forklift or wheel loader. Operated safely by a remote control, the entire 20-metre-long side opens vertically into a revolutionary large loading door, without supporting columns or sliding doors. We are very proud of the wagon's superlight truss construction, which makes the long door light, flexible and yet sufficiently strong. The design enables swift and safe access to the 51-square-metre loading area. In predecessors to this wagon, columns or sliding doors were common solutions. Our mission was to remove any elements [...]

The TBU adapter is the modern alternative to bearing boxes

2022-01-07T08:58:59+00:00

Simplified maintenance through modularisation and lower life-cycle costs are two cornerstones of Kiruna Wagon’s offering. Our proprietary TBU adapter is an example of products that reduce costs and increase the availability of railway wagons. TBU adapters offer an effective way to move from earlier bearings and bearing boxes to using modern, inexpensive and accessible TBUs that are mounted on the wheel axle and connect to the simple adapter. This is a good alternative for new construction, but it is also easy to calculate the return on investment by rebuilding your existing wagons for more efficient wheel axle changes. TBU stands [...]
